Venice History ... Venice, whose origin began with a flip of a coin, is an eclectic beach community ... unlike any other place in the world. Developed by Abbot Kinney in 1905, it was patterned after Venice Italy with Italianate buildings and a canal system, and was known as Venice-of-America. Venice has gone through many transformations through the years... once seedy enough to be used as Tijuana in Orson Bean´s "A Touch of Evil" to multi-million dollar homes today. The original carnival atmosphere continues to the present.
